Fake gold tooth recalled over lead levels

Health Canada is recalling a novelty gold fake tooth because it contains excessive levels of lead.

Lead is toxic if ingested by young children. Anyone who swallows an item with high lead content is at high risk of developing severe or fatal lead poisoning.

Marketed as Big Daddy Gold Tooth, the tooth was sold as a Halloween novelty and has a dollar sign painted in black on the surface. It is identified by the item number 59428 and UPC number 721773594281.

Health Canada has not received any reports of illness related to the tooth but it is advising consumers to immediately stop using it and put it in their household garbage.

About 69 of the novelty items were sold at Magasin Halloween stores in Quebec from September 2008 to November 2008.
