Giant Bicycle has recalled bikes equipped with a flawed steerer tube after it was found that its forks can crack and create a falling hazard.
The recall involves the 2009 TCR Advanced SL Team SL 0, SL 1, SL 2, and SL (ISP) model bicycles and frames in silver, charcoal, blue and red.
The steerer tubes on the model can cause the forks to crack and break and pose a hazard to the consumer, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in an advisory on Wednesday.
About 1,000 of the products have been sold at authorized Giant deals since August 2008. The retail value of the recalled models is between $3,300 and $7,500.
Consumers with the product are being asked to stop riding the bike and to take it to an authorized dealer for a free inspection and replacement fork.
