Canopies could trap, strangle kids

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled about 2,400 Home Sweet Playhome canopies, because children could get their heads caught in the canopy's window openings and be trapped or strangled.
The manufacturer, The Land of Nod, of Northbrook, Ill., has received two reports of children being trapped, though no injuries resulted.
The canopies are draped from a bamboo hoop, which is suspended from the ceiling to create a play space measuring about one metre by four. The canopies have an open bottom, a door and three multi-paned windows. "The Land of Nod" is printed on a label on the canopy.
The recall does not cover canopies sold after October 2005.
The canopies were sold through the company’s catalog and website between September 2003 and October 2005 for about $100 US for the canopy and $139 for the canopy-and-cushion set.
The company is offering a replacement fabric portion of the canopy and a $15 gift card.
Consumers can call The Land of Nod at (800) 933-9904 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday.
