Canadian souvenir stationery kit recalled over lead

Health Canada is recalling a stationery kit sold as a Canadian souvenir because the stickers applied to the items in the kit contain lead in excess of the allowable limit.

The Canada souvenir stationery kit includes a white plastic pencil case with a Canada flag on one side; an eraser with a Canada flag sticker; a white pencil sharpener with a red maple leaf sticker; a white plastic 15 cm (6 inch) ruler with three Canada flag stickers attached to it; and a red pencil.

Health Canada says it has not received any reports of illness related to the kit.

It advises consumers to immediately take the kit away from children and throw it in their regular household garbage.

About 9,600 kits were sold in Canada from June 2006 to December 2008.
