GE recalls 244,000 ovens for fire, burn hazards

GE is recalling about 244,000 ovens in the U.S. because they pose a fire and burn hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The CPSC said if the oven door is removed and incorrectly reattached, heat used during the self-clean cycle could pose a danger to users.

The company has learned of 28 related incidents. No injuries have been reported.

The recall affects GE, GE Profile, monogram and Kenmore ovens sold in the U.S. from October 2002 through December 2004 for between $900 and $3,600 US.

The ovens were made in the U.S.

Consumers should inspect the oven to make sure the door is properly installed and if necessary, should contact the company for a repair.
