Vacuum cleaner attachment recalled over laceration hazard

Health Canada is recalling an attachment sold with Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners because plastic pieces inside the attachment can break apart and be ejected, posing a laceration hazard.

The Dirt Devil Turbo Tool/Power Brush attachment was sold as an accessory with various Dirt Devil vacuum models. Only those with date codes J7060 through J7365 and having a C-clip connector are included in the recall.

The date code is located on the underside of the attachment. The Turbo Tool/Power Brush tools are about 16.5 centimetres long by about 13 centimetres wide and come in a variety of colours that match the colour of the vacuum.

The housing of the tool may be clear, red, green, or light blue with clear, light blue, dark blue, red, purple, or black turbine fans with matching brush rolls.

About 16,570 of the recalled attachments were sold in Canada between March 2007 and April 2008 at mass merchandisers, home improvement stores and other retail stores.

The U.S. importer, TTI Floor Care North America, has received 140 reports of incidents involving the recalled attachment, including 12 reports of injuries in the United States and Canada. Those consumers reported minor eye or skin injuries and one thumb injury.

Health Canada has not received reports of incidents.

Consumers should immediately stop using the attachment. They can contact the importer, TTI Floor Care North America, to receive a free repair kit at (800) 245-2296 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
