Wolf Appliance withdraws 24,000 gas ranges for burn hazard

Wisconsin-based Wolf Appliance Inc. is recalling about 24,000 gas ranges in the U.S. to repair a problem with delayed ignition, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The CPSC says the delayed gas ignition can cause flames to project forward when the range door is open. The company has learned of 97 related incidents, including 15 reports of minor burns.

The recall includes gas ranges with the model numbers P48, PS48 and R48 sold in U.S. stores from January 1998 through June 2008 for between $5,000 and $9,000 US.

The ranges were made in the U.S.

Consumers should stop using the ranges and contact the company for a repair.
