Studio RTA recalls nearly 50,000 TV stands due to tip-over hazard

A California distributor is voluntarily recalling nearly 50,000 television stands because they may tip over and injure people, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The commission is advising consumers to stop using the stands distributed by Pico Rivera, Calif.-based Studio RTA, and made by King Pao Enterprise Co. Ltd. and Studio Link Corp. Ltd. of China.

No injuries or incidents have been reported, the commission said.

The recall affects 48,600 television stands in total and applies to four different models. Their model numbers are printed on the packaging and instruction sheets.

They include:
“E Series” Model 060331: Consists of two glass shelves, a lower shelf made of metal, and black leg and frame components.
“Fierro” Model 402875: Sold exclusively by Best Buy. The product consists of three glass shelves with black leg and frame components.
“Madison DLP” Model 060176: Consists of three glass shelves with dark wood grain finish frame components, black legs and a black fibreboard back panel.
“Madison 3000” Model 060090: Consists of three glass shelves with dark wood grain finish frame components, black legs and a metal mesh back panel.

Units of the 402875 model were sold by Best Buy Co. Inc. and other national retailers from May 2004 to August 2008 for about between $220 US and $260 US each.

Stand owners should immediately remove their televisions from the stand and contact Studio RTA to receive a free repair kit.
