Listeria worries prompt N.L. deli-product recall

Potential listeria contamination has led a Newfoundland and Labrador food manufacturer to recall 31 different products, including sliced meats, prepared sandwiches and desserts.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Smith's Snacks Service Litd. voluntarily recalled the items on Thursday. The products are sold under the Smith Snacks brand.
No illnesses have been reported.
The recall comes in the wake of 17 deaths across the country that have been linked to deli meats produced at a Maple Leaf Foods plant in Toronto.
Smith's Snacks, based in Norman's Cove, recalled products in May over a similar concern of possible contamination. The company went through an exhaustive cleaning program before it was permitted to re-open.
All of the Smith Snacks products were distributed only in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The products include sliced ham, roast beef and chicken breast, as well as prepared sub sandwiches, apple turnovers and black forest cakes.
In a statement, the CFIA said all of the affected products are being recalled regardless of their best-before dates.
All the products have a code that begin with the 623-858.
