Drop side cribs recalled due to entrapment hazard

Health Canada is recalling a type of baby crib made by Simplicity, following a similar U.S. recall issued last week.
The crib in question is called the Simplicity Crib N Changer Combo, model No. 8994WC.
A different type of Simplicity crib was recalled last year, also because of hardware problems.
Last week, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 600,000 Simplicity brand drop side cribs due to entrapment and suffocation hazards to infants.
Problems with the cribs' hardware cause the drop side to come off its tracks. When the drop side detaches or partially detaches, it creates a hazardous gap, in which a baby can become entrapped and suffocate.
The U.S. importer, SFCA, and CPSC are aware of nine incidents in which the drop side detached on the cribs. There have been no injuries.
Across Canada, about 1,050 cribs were sold between June 2005 and September 2008 at Zellers stores, with one unit being sold by an independent Quebec retailer.
The recalled drop side cribs have a date code, which can be found on a label on the headboard under the mattress support, that ends in GB or DH (examples: 0507DH or 1806DH).
Only Simplicity Crib N Changer Combo cribs that were manufactured in China are affected by this advisory.
Consumers should contact Montreal-based Elfe Juvenile Products for a full refund.
In the U.S., the recalled model numbers include: 8620, 8745, 8748, 8755, 8756, 8778, 8810 and 8994. The recalled drop side cribs have a date code, which can be found on a label on the headboard under the mattress support, which ends in 05DH, 05GB, 06DH, 06GB, 07DH or 07GB (examples: 1806 DH or 0507 GB).
The recalled model names include: Aspen and Crib N Changer Combo, Gabrielle, Camille, Providence and Shenandoah. Only the brand name “Simplicity” can be seen on the label on the headboard.
