Children's stacking trains recalled
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 | 02:18 PM ET
Health Canada is recalling a brand of children's wooden stacking trains because the paint contains barium in excess of the allowable limit.
The 18-piece set of brightly coloured interchangeable stacking pieces are distributed by Melissa & Doug of Westport, Conn.
Only batch No. GY1207 is involved in the recall. The packaging indicates the trains are for ages two and up, and are printed with item no. 572, UPC # 000772005722.
About 1,150 toys were sold from February 2008 until September 2008 at various toy, educational and variety stores across the country.
Some forms of barium are safely used in medical and commercial applications, while other forms of barium can be toxic, causing adverse health effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and cramps as well as more severe symptoms.
Health Canada has not received reports of illness or injury related to the use of this toy.
Consumers can return their toy to the place of purchase, or contact Melissa & Doug at (203) 762-4500 for an exchange.
