Venmar CES Inc. recalls heat recovery ventilators due to fire hazard
Thursday, August 21, 2008 | 12:16 PM ET
The voluntary recall, which involves about 3,400 units, was issued after Venmar CES Inc., received three reports of ventilator motors overheating, resulting in fires that caused property damage. The company is based in Saskatoon.
The ventilators are designed to exchange air between the inside and outside of a building or home to provide fresh air.
The units, manufactured in Canada, were sold at heating, plumbing and building supply distributors in North America from January 1991 through July 2007 for between $1,700 and $2,000.
Consumers are being advised to turn off the ventilator immediately, disconnect it from the power supply and contact Venmar CES to arrange for a technician to install a free repair.
Venmar CES can be contacted toll free at (866) 698-6283 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. ET Monday through Sunday.
