U.S. suspects E. coli in beef

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has recalled about 70,000 kilograms of ground beef because it appears to be contaminated with E. coli.
The department has received 11 reports of illnesses linked to eating the product.
The ground beef produced by S&S Foods LLC of Azusa, Calif., was shipped to distribution centres in Milwaukee and Allentown, Pa.
It was intended for food service and institutional use, and not for sale directly to consumers.
The recalled product is 30-pound boxes of “742798 MFST, 100% ground beef bulk, 80/20, 1 lb. brick,” with the establishment number “EST. 20375” inside the USDA mark of inspection, and a case code beginning “06238” ink-jet printed on the side of the box.
The problem was discovered through a joint investigation by the department and the Virginia Department of Health.
