IMS car chargers recalled for fire hazards

About 210,000 car chargers used with halogen spotlights are being recalled because they pose a fire or burn hazard to consumers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The chargers are incompatible with the spotlight's battery and may overcharge, the CPSC said. The company has learned of two incidents involving spotlights overheating while being charged. No injuries have been reported.

The recall affects 12V DC chargers sold with the Power System Plus/UST 3 Million Candlepower Spotlight. The model number HSLR30S is printed on the product packaging.

The chargers were sold in Sears and K-Mart stores in the U.S. from October 2007 to June 2008 for about $20 US.

The chargers were made in China.

Consumers should stop using the chargers and contact IMS for a replacement.
