Halogen work lights pose fire, shock hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled about 58,000 halogen work lights because they can overheat and melt, posing risks of fire and electric shock.

The 500-watt Chicago Electric halogen work lights have the model number 30858 on the packaging, with "UL Listed E163392" and "Work Light 8F95" printed on a sticker on the back.

There have been three reports of incidents in which the work lights overheated and melted. No injuries have been reported.

Harbor Freight Tools, which sold the lights in its stores and through catalogues from February 2006 through March 2008, is offering refund. The lights sold for about $10 US.

For further information, consumers can call Harbor Freight Tools at (800) 444-3353 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.
