Grills may melt

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled about 24,000 Perfect Flame double-lid, four-burner gas grills because the cooking chamber can melt and/or ignite, posing a risk of fire and burns.

There have been 175 reports of grill fires and 25 reports of grills melting, some of which resulted in minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

The recall covers Perfect Flame grills with the model number GAC3615 and the following serial numbers and date codes: KU (July 2007) 000001 – 001278 and 001282 – 001423; KV (August 2007) 001424 – 001849 and 001855 – 005404; KW (September 2007) 005405 – 006540, 006548 – 009671 and 010299 – 010440; KX (October 2007) 010005 – 010297, 010441 – 014305 and 014322 – 017164; KY (November 2007) 017165 – 020714 and 020715 – 022856; and KZ (December 2007) 022859 – 023284 and 024301 – 025862.

The model number, serial number and date code are printed on a label on the frame panel of the right-hand side cart.

The grills were sold by Lowe's stores from October 2007 through July 2008 for about $300 US.

Consumers should call Lowe's at (877) 385-8226 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. PT Monday through Friday to arrange for a refund.
