Gardener's Supply Co. is voluntarily recalling its Flame Weeders product because of a potential fire and burn hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.
The recall, which affects 2,000 units, was made because the two-piece brass control valve can separate between the weeder and the propane tank, causing a leak and posing fire and burn hazards to users.
Gardener's Supply of Burlington, Vt., said it has received three reports of the propane leak, including one report of flames. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled Flame Weeders, which are used to burn weeds, have a long silver metal tube with a blue plastic handle and is attached by a two-piece brass valve to a propane tank.
The product was sold at Gardener’s Supply stores in Burlington and Williston, Vt., from March 2008 through July 2008 for about $50 US.
Consumers should immediately stop using the Flame Weeders and return them to the store where they were purchased or call Gardener’s Supply for a full refund, including any shipping costs.
Gardener’s Supply is also is directly contacting consumers who purchased the recalled flame weeders.
