Health Canada recalls two Symak plastic toys

Health Canada issued recall notices for two plastic toys made by Symak Sales Co. of St.-Laurent, Que.

The federal government is recalling toy binoculars and toy machine guns after tests by the government indicated that the surface paint contained lead in excess of the allowable limit.

Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects, the government said.

The recall covers: plastic toy binoculars with an army camouflage motif; item no. K8299; UPC# 061541082993 and plastic toy machine gun with sound; item no. K8351; UPC# 061541083518.

There have been no reports of illness or injury related to these toys, but the government is asking that consumer dispose of them immediately.

Symak sold 4,400 toy machine guns and 3,000 toy binoculars in Canada from June 2007 to July 2008.\
