Hayes Bicycle Group recalls quick-release tire devices

Wisconsin-based Hayes Bicycle Group is recalling about 800 SunRinglé Hollow Quick Release Devices because they may malfunction or break, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The CPSC warns the devices, which are used to release a bicycle's tires, may fail to operate, causing the rider to lose control. The company has learned of four devices breaking. No injuries have been reported.

The recall affects the following models:


  • Hollow CroMo Front 100 mm.
  • Hollow CroMo Rear 130 mm.
  • Hollow CroMo Rear 135 mm.

The devices, which were made in Taiwan, were sold in U.S. stores from June 2007 through May 2008 for about $17.

Consumers should stop riding bicycles equipped with the recalled devices and return them to the retailer for an inspection and replacement.
