Electra Bicycle Company recalls Amsterdam bikes

California-based Electra Bicycle Company is recalling about 9,500 Amsterdam Bicycles because the chains may derail, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The company said it has learned of four chains derailing, including one incident involving minor injuries.

The recall affects the Classic 3, Original 3, Royal 8 and Sport 3 models sold through Electra Bicycle dealers in the U.S. from January 2007 through June 2008 for between $400 and $850 US. Bikes with frame numbers beginning with F06 or EL or bikes with chainguards marked 06/08 are not affected by the recall.

The bikes were made in Taiwan.

Consumers should stop using the bicycle and contact an Electra Bicycle dealer for an inspection and repair.
