75,000 blinds sold through Home Depot, Sears recalled

Shade-O-Matic is recalling about 75,000 window blinds sold across Canada because they could pose a strangulation danger, Health Canada said Tuesday.

At Home Depot, the blinds were sold from November 2006 to May 2008 as Jasper Faux Wood Blinds and S48 Printed Faux Wood Blinds. At Sears, the Whole Home 2" Printed Faux Wood Blinds were sold from May 2007 to May 2008.

The federal agency said testing showed the inner cord of the blinds can be pulled out to form a loop of about 10 centimetres, which could pose a danger to young children.

No related incidents have been reported.

Caregivers should contact the company for information on how to adjust the safety cord stop.
