West Music pulls shaker instruments for high lead levels

- By Tara Kimura
Texas-based Antigua Winds Inc. is recalling about 6,500 Shaker Guiro instruments because they contain high amounts of lead, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission said Thursday.
The recall applies to the Basic Beat Shaker Guiro model number SHBB5 sold through West Music retail stores in Iowa and Illinois and through online and catalogue sales. The shakers were sold from November 2001 through March 2008 for between $9 and $11 US.
No adverse health effects have been reported.
The shakers were manufactured in Taiwan.
Consumers should return the instrument to West Music for a replacement.
