Consumers in Newfoundland and Labrador are being warned not to consume a particular type of submarine sandwich, which the manufacturer is recalling.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said in a statement that Smith Snacks Small Sub sandwiches may be contaminated.
The CFIA said manufacturer Smith's Snacks, based in Norman's Cove, was voluntarily recalling the prepackaged sandwiches from the marketplace, and that the CFIA is monitoring the recall.
The affected products may contain Listeria monocytogenes, and "may not look or smell spoiled," the CFIA said, adding that resulting listeriosis can result in high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness and nausea. Pregnant women, seniors and people with weak immune systems are particularly at risk.
The affected sandwiches were distributed only in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Their packaging contains the code 23858 00026 0 and a best-before date of June 8, 2008.
