Canada's food watchdog is expanding an earlier recall of Berni brand pesto to include an additional product.
The recall, issued Tuesday, now includes 520-g jars of Berni brand Pesto al Basilico with the UPC codes 8 73186 00001 6 and 8 032589 960170. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency on May 22 announced a recall of 195-g jars of Pesto al Pomodoro and Pesto al Basilico.
The ingredient label on the products lists cashews using the French term anacardes, which may not be familiar to all consumers, the CFIA said.
The CFIA has confirmed the products were distributed in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. The federal agency also notes the pesto products may have been distributed nationally.
One associated illness has been reported.
Consumers with questions can call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
