Torchiere lamps withdrawn for faulty wiring

- By Peter Hadzipetros
About 90,000 Torchiere lamps sold in U.S. Lowe's stores are being recalled because they pose a fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.
The recall applies to lamps with the item number 179878 stamped on the base and the UL listing number E246506. The products were sold between March 2005 and October 2007 for about $17 US.
The lamps were manufactured in China.
The CPSC warns a short circuit in the lamps' wiring poses a fire danger to users. Two reports of lamp fires have been reported.
Consumers should stop using the lamps and return them to Lowe's for a refund.
