Tinker Bell Lamp, coin banks recalled for unsafe lead levels

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday announced recalls of two children's products sold in the U.S. for high levels of lead.

The recalls affect the following:


  • About 60,000 Tinker Bell lamps manufactured by Kash N' Gold Ltd. and sold from January 2007 through October 2007 for about $40 US.
  • About 1,300 fish coin banks distributed by TJ Promotions and given to Coastal Federal Credit Union members in North Carolina from February 2006 through September 2007.

    High amounts of lead can harm the nervous system, kidneys and other major organs. Anemia, a decline in red blood cells, can occur, as well as damage to the nervous system that may impair mental function. At worst, lead poisoning can cause seizures or death.

    Consumers should stop using the products and return them for a replacement.
