Food watchdog expands Christmas cake allergy alert
- January 16, 2008 8:40 AM
- By Peter Hadzipetros
Canada's food watchdog is updating an earlier recall of Max's Christmas cake, saying the product was more widely distributed than earlier thought.
The original Jan. 10 recall for the cakes in B.C. and Alberta has been expanded to include cakes sold in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The Vancouver-based manufacturer, Max's Donuts, failed to declare soy and milk proteins on its label.
The allergy alert affects almond iced cakes sold in 500g and 800g cakes with the UPC codes 0 63396 07214 3 and 0 63396 07224 2.
No associated allergic reactions have been reported.
Consumers with questions can call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
