Toddler's death prompts Ameriwood Entertainment Centre recall

Ohio-based Ameriwood Industries is recalling about 138,000 entertainment centres, saying the units can collapse if the back panel is not fastened.

A 19-month-old child died after an entertainment centre collapsed on the toddler, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday. The company has learned of three other reports of minor injuries.

The recall applies to the entertainment centres with the model number 93956 sold under the Ridgewood/Charleswood brand name. The units were manufactured in the U.S.

The units were sold in U.S. stores from June 2000 through May 2005 for about $200 US.

Consumer should stop using the recalled units and contact the company for a repair kit.
