ROMI recalls SCUBA gear in U.S.

California-based ROMI Enterprises is withdrawing about 6,000 SCUBA regulators because they may fail, posing an injury or drowning hazard to users, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The recall applies to certain Oceanic Regulator First Stages and AERIS SCUBA Regulator First Stages regulators.

The company has received reports of two units malfunctioning during diving. SCUBA dealers have also reported six incidents of failure in testing. No injuries have been reported.

The regulators were sold through Oceanic and AERIS retailers in the U.S. from May 2006 through October 2007 for between $300 and $500 US each. The units were manufactured in the U.S. and Taiwan.

Consumers should check the CPSC website for a complete list of recalled regulators and contact their dealers for a replacement part.
