RC2 recalls potty seats, feeding chairs in Canada and U.S.

RC2 Corp. is recalling potty training seats and feeding chairs in Canada and the U.S. for high lead levels and safety problems, the Illinois-based company said Thursday.
The recall affects the following products:
- About 100,000 First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seats sold from November 2006 through October 2007 for about $30 US. Seats stamped with an "R" on the seatback are not included in the recall.
- About 160,000 First Years 3-in-1 Flush and Sounds Potty Seats sold from April 2006 through August 2007 for between $20 and $25 US.
RC2 is pulling the potty seats, which were made in China, because decorative plaques on the back contain high levels of lead. The company is not offering a refund, but is instead offering to send consumers a protective cover to place over the plaque.
The feeding seats, which were manufactured in the U.S., are being withdrawn because restraining straps have been found to slip out of their slots.
RC2 has learned of 38 reports of straps falling out or nearly falling out, including 12 reports of children falling out of chairs. Consumers should stop using the seats and contact the company for replacement straps.
