Kidzone wrestling figurines recalled for excessive lead content

Health Canada has announced a recall of 5,766 Kidzone action figures sold across the country in discount stores.

Testing on the toys has found the toys contain unsafe levels of lead, the federal agency says.

High amounts of lead can harm the nervous system, kidneys and other major organs. Anemia, a decline in red blood cells, can occur, as well as damage to the nervous system that may impair mental function. At worst, lead poisoning can cause seizures or death.

No adverse health effects have been reported.

The action figures, which were manufactured in China, were sold from June 2007 to November 2007. The recall affects dolls with the item number 09962 and the UPC code 062823099623.

Caregivers are being advised to take toys away from children. Health Canada also says consumers should dispose of the toys to prevent them from being reused.
