Children's clothes recalled for drawstring hazards

Children's sweatshirts, clothing sets and sweaters were recalled Thursday for strangulation and entrapment hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The recall applies to the following products:


  • About 72,000 boys' sweatshirts distributed by Scope Apparel sold in various sizes, colours and designs. The shirts, which have tags sewn inside the garment that read 'Whatever' and 'RN#39209,' were sold in U.S. stores from August 2007 through November 2007 for between $20 and $40 US.
  • About 5,200 sweaters imported by A & R Knitwear in different styles and sizes and sold in Sears stores in the U.S. during the month of September for about $34 US.
  • About 13,000 girls' knit clothing sets imported by Millennium Apparel Group and sold in U.S. Kmart stores during the month of July for about $17 US.
  • About 6,100 TKS-brand children's pants with the model numbers 62240, 62254 and 62226 and sold in Sears stores from July through August 2007 for about $16 US.

Consumers can remove the drawstrings threaded through the hood or waist to remove strangulation and entrapment dangers. Scope Apparel is also offering consumers who return the garment a refund.

No injuries have been reported.
