Bunk beds recalled for safety hazards

Virginia-based Hooker Furniture Corporation is recalling about 1,300 bunk beds because they pose strangulation and entrapment hazards to young children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The CPSC says gaps in the upper bunk violate safety standards. No associated injuries or incident have been reported.

The recall affects the following models:


  • Albany Park.
  • Swedish Accents.
  • Mariner's Landing.
  • Chelsea's Place.

The beds were sold through U.S. Hooker Furniture stores from August 2005 through August 2007 for about $1,000 US each. The beds were manufactured in Malaysia and Vietnam.

Consumers should contact the retailer for an in-home repair. Parents should not let their children use the beds until they have been fixed.
