Polaris recalls snowmobiles for fire hazard

Minnesota-based Polaris Industries is withdrawing about 28,000 snowmobiles because they pose a fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The company says the fuel tank filler neck can crack and leak fuel, creating a fire danger to users. The company has learned of 1,048 incidents in which the neck cracked or leaked. No injuries have been reported.

The recall applies to select models sold through Polaris dealers in the U.S. from July 2003 through October 2007 for between $4,100 and $11,600 US.

Consumers should stop using their snowmobiles and check the company website to see whether their snowmobile is included in the recall.
