Nike football helmet chinstraps withdrawn for safety hazard

Nike is recalling about 235,000 football helmet chinstraps because they may break and fail to protect the user from head injuries, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.
The company has learned of 18 incidents in which the chinstraps broke. Injuries reported have included concussions, facial lacerations and a broken nose.
The affected chinstraps, manufactured in China, were sold in youth and adult sizes and are stamped with one of the following style numbers: FA0016 046, FA0016 130, FA0021 046, or FA0021 130.
The straps were sold in U.S. stores and through the company's website from April 2006 through October 2007 for about $20 US. Consumers should stop using the straps and contact the company for a voucher.
