Hobby Lobby Halloween baskets recalled due to excess lead

Consumers are urged to stop using Halloween-themed baskets sold by Hobby Lobby in the United States because of excessive levels of lead in the paint.

About 10,000 of the baskets were sold in the U.S., according to the importer, Hobby Lobby Stores of Oklahoma City, Okla.

The company says surface paint on the bat, pumpkin and witch emblems attached to the baskets contain excess levels of lead, which violates the U.S. federal lead paint ban.

The baskets, manufactured in China, can be identified by the item number 546420, located next to the price on the paper tag on the handle.

The plastic baskets are either black or orange with two carrying handles. An emblem of a witch, bat or pumpkin is attached to each side of the handle.

Consumers should take the baskets away from children immediately and return them to Hobby Lobby for a $2 US exchange card.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the voluntary recall on Monday.
