Honeywell gas valves recalled for burn hazard

Honeywell is recalling about 2,000 gas valves in Canada used in decorative fireplaces and stoves because they may pose a burn hazard to users.

The New Jersey-based company said the activation knob on the valve can be positioned between the OFF and PILOT settings, causing the pilot gas to leak. When consumers light the pilot, the gas may combust, presenting a burn danger.

The company has learned of one incident in which gas built up and combusted when the consumer lit the fireplace. No injuries were reported.

The recall applies to gas valves used in liquid-propane-fuelled decorative fireplaces and Franklin-type stoves. Consumers should check the Honeywell site for a complete list of affected models.

Honeywell is urging consumers with the valves to stop using their fireplaces and stoves. Consumers should contact the company for a free inspection and replacement valve.
