Swing sets withdrawn for fall hazard

Wisconsin-based BCI Burke Company LLC is recalling about 670 swing sets and urging consumers with the affected models to call the company for a repair kit, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The recall affects the Single Post Swing Set model number 550-0033 and bay swings model number 550-0035 with belt or bucket swings. The swings were sold from BCI Burke in the U.S. from January 2000 through August 2007 for between $900 US and $1,500 US.

A connection on the top beam of the swing set may break, presenting a fall danger to the user. The company has learned of four incidents of a beam collapsing and one report of a child sustaining bruises in a fall from the swing.

Consumers should stop using the swings and contact the company for a repair kit.
