- By Peter Hadzipetros
Canada's food watchdog is warning consumers that Niru brand coriander powder distributed in Ontario is being recalled because it may be tainted with salmonella.
The recall involves the following batches of coriander powder:
- 450-gram packages bearing UPC 7 79140 00233 4 and Batch No. 70713.
- 900-gram packages with UPC 7 79140 00112 2 and Batch No. 70712.
Food tainted with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but the bacteria can cause symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
No associated illnesses have been reported.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is overseeing the recall of the product from the marketplace. Consumers with questions can contact the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
