Sam's Club withdraws 138,000 torch lamps for safety hazard
- August 29, 2007 2:15 PM
- By Peter Hadzipetros
About 138,000 Ceramic Oil Torch Lamps sold at U.S. Sam's Clubs stores are being recalled because they pose fire, burn and laceration hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.
The CPSC warned consumers that torch heads on the lamps can come loose during use, breaking and possibly spilling fuel.
The company has learned of 107 incidents in which the torch head dislodged from its base. Consumers have reported suffering cuts from picking up broken torch pieces. One person has also complained the spilled fuel caused a skin rash.
The green torch lamps were sold from February 2007 through July 2007 for about $60 US.
Consumers should stop using the lamps and return them to any Sam's Club for a full refund.
