I-O Data Device withdraws AC Adapters for burn hazards

San Jose-based I-O Data Device USA INC. is pulling about 740 AC adapters sold with network hard-disk drives because they may overheat, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The recall affects AC adapters with the model number IO-ACADP1510UL sold on the company's website, through phone sales and at stores in the U.S. from December 2004 through February 2007. The adapters and drives were sold for between $300 and $400 US as a bundle.

The company has learned of three incidents in which adapters overheated. No associated injuries have been reported.

Consumers should stop using the adapters and contact the company for free replacements.
