22,000 Backpack blowers pulled for fire hazard

Shindaiwa Inc. is warning consumers its backpack blowers pose a potential safety hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.
A problem with the muffler on the outer shell of the unit could damage the fuel tank, creating a potential fire hazard.
The company has learned of one incident of a small muffler fire. No injuries have been reported.
The recall of about 22,000 blowers affects models EB630 and EB630RT with serial numbers up to 7025018. The blowers were sold through Shindaiwa dealers in the U.S. from September 2005 through May 2007 for about $600 US each.
Consumers are advised to stop using the blowers and see their dealers about a new muffler replacement.
