Soldier Bear toy sets recalled for unsafe lead levels

About 13,000 Soldier Bear toy sets are being withdrawn because they pose a lead poisoning danger to young children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The recall affects the following sets:


  • H.E.R.O.E.S. Dino Mega Cruiser, Style code 00047, UPC 4 98567 00047 4.

  • Dinosaur Adventure set, Style codes 91068 and 91074, UPC codes 6 98567 91068 1 and 6 98567 91074 2.

  • Wild Animal Adventure set, Style code 91074, UPC 6 98567 91074 2.

  • H.E.R.O.E.S. Vehicle Play set (military, police, fire rescue), Style code 85939, 6 98567 85939 3.

The sets were sold in stores worldwide from August 2005 through April 2007 for between $5 and $15 US.

Children absorb lead more easily than adults and are more vulnerable to poisoning. Exposure to high levels of lead can cause vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, coma or death.

Symptoms of lead poisoning include anemia, appetite loss, abdominal pain, constipation, fatigue, sleeplessness, irritability and headaches.

No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Consumers should take the toys away from young children and return them for a refund.
