- By Peter Hadzipetros
Gerber Products Co. on Friday announced it was withdrawing its organic rice and organic oatmeal baby cereals because they could pose a choking hazard.
Some lumps in the cereal may not dissolve in water or milk, the company said.
The products were distributed in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Incidents of choking have been reported to the company but there have been no reports of injury.
The recall affects 306,760 packages of organic rice cereal (UPC code 15000 12504) and 167,724 packages of organic oatmeal cereal (UPC code 15000 12502) sold in eight-ounce (226-gram) boxes.
Consumers who purchased the cereals while travelling should call Gerber to return the product for a refund at 1-800-443-7237.
