Flashlights, counterfeit batteries pulled for fire hazard

Utah-based Sportsman's Warehouse is recalling about 4,400 flashlights and batteries, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.
The batteries, falsely labelled as Panasonic CR123A Industrial Lithium, were packaged with the High Intensity Xenon Aluminum Flashlights. The phoney batteries have been found to overheat and rupture, the CPSC said.
The company has learned of two incidents in which batteries overheated and flashlights caught fire, including one report of a person suffering burns to his hands.
The recall affects the following models:
- Six-volt, Item No. 1139422).
- 9-volt, Item No. 1139423.
- 12-volt, Item No. 1139424.
The batteries and flashlights were sold at Sportsman's Warehouse stores across the U.S. from October 2006 through May 2007 for between $30 and $40 US.
Consumers should remove the batteries and may return the flashlights to the retailer for a full refund.
