Company recalls more snack food over salmonella fears

Robert's American Gourmet Inc. recalled its Super Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn Sticks snack food as a precautionary measure after the Canada Food Inspection Agency's warning last week about another of the company's products.

The CFIA said last week that Robert's American Gourmet Veggie Booty snack food might be tainted with salmonella bacteria and warned consumers to avoid it. The product is being withdrawn from the marketplace.

The company recalled the Super Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn Sticks Monday because the two products share the same seasoning, which is exclusive to the company.

Gourmet Veggie Booty is confirmed to have been distributed in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan but may also have been sold nationally. Consumers may also have bought it from online retailers, phone orders and mail orders.

The Super Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn Sticks are available in both Canada and the U.S. The CFIA has not announced a recall.

Food tainted with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but the bacteria can cause symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

No associated illnesses have been reported in Canada but there have been several incidents reported in the U.S.
