Combination tire inflator, hand pumps recalled

About 55,000 combination tire inflator and hand pumps are being withdrawn from the marketplace because they may shatter under pressure, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.

The manufacturer, Arizona-based Innovations in Cycling Inc., has learned of 12 incidents in which pumps exploded. People reported suffering lacerations, temporary ringing in the ears and bruising.

The recall affects the following two models:

  • Genuine Innovations Second Wind MTB model, part numbers 2525, 2525-O or 3519.
  • Wrench Force Two Shot model, part numbers 84995 or 80383.

The pumps were sold in stores in the U.S. and through online retailers and catalogues for about $30 US from January 2004 through May 2007.

The Second Wind MTB was also included in a Genuine Innovations ATV Deluxe Tire Repair & Inflation Kit, which sold for about $50 US from July 2005 to January 2007.

Consumers should stop using the products and return them to the retailer for a replacement pump head.
