About 2,600 GE monogram Professional gas ranges are being recalled from the marketplace, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.
General Electric says a design flaw in the ranges can cause gas to leak from a tube, presenting a fire hazard. The company has received six reports of gas leaking, causing five fires and two instances of smoke damage.
One consumer also suffered burns to her hands, the CPSC said.
The recall applies to the 36-inch and 48-inch Monogram Pro ranges with the model numbers ZDP48N6DHSS, ZDP48L6DHSS, ZDP36N4DHSS and ZDP36L4DHSS. The ranges were sold at retailers across the U.S. from October 2005 through February 2007 for between $4,000 and $6,000 US.
Consumers should stop using the range and contact the company for a repair.
