Encore Tabs for Men pose health risks: Health Canada

Health Canada is warning consumers not to take Encore Tabs for Men, a dietary supplement and sexual enhancement product, because it could cause serious side-effects including heart attacks and strokes.

The product, which has not been authorized for sale in Canada, contains the drug tadalafil — a prescription medication that should only be taken under the supervision of a health professional, the federal agency said Monday.

Side-effects linked to tadalafil include heart attacks, cardiac death, angina, irregular heart rate or stroke. In rare cases, the drug can also cause penile tissue damage and permanent loss of potency.

No associated adverse reactions have been reported in Canada.

The product was sold in stores and may have also been purchased from an online retailer.

The Canadian importer has issued a voluntary recall. Consumers with concerns should speak with a medical professional or call Health Canada's public inquiries line at 613- 957-2991, or toll free at 1-866-225-0709.
