Payless shoes recalled for choking danger

Payless ShoeSource said Wednesday it was withdrawing 690,000 children's clogs from the marketplace.

The company said plastic rivets on the Airwalk Compel clogs can be pulled off the sides of the shoes, presenting a choking hazard to young children.

Payless has learned of an incident in which a child began to choke on a rivet. No injuries were reported.

The recall applies to clogs in sizes three through 10 sold at Payless stores in the U.S. and on its website from August 2006 through April 2007 for about $13 US.

Consumers should return the shoes for a refund or exchange.
